RELIGOUS TOLERANCE: Silence Over Continued Maltreatment Of Shi’ites Is Indeed A Malice To Islam

Says Dr. Ahmad Gumi during Sallah homage.

During a recent visit as Sallah homage to one of the prominent Sunni Scholars in Kaduna, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi by faithful brothers of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria leads by Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky(H) as part of efforts to bring togetherness, understanding and religous tolerance among Muslims in the state. Dr. Gumi has categorically faulted other Islamic scholars for their long-standing silence over what is being happening with Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his staunch followers.

The visit was made under the umbrella of Academic Forum of the Movement on Thursday 6th of June, 2019, two days after Eid al-Fitr prayer was recently oberserved by Muslims globally.

The visiting crew were led by Malam Aliyu Turmizi Kaduna the leading brother of Sheikh Zakzaky’s followers in Kaduna and nearby region. They were received in a friendly and warm manner by Dr. Gumi and his entourage.

Addressing the visitors, Dr. A. Gumi
expressed concern over how religious clerics in the contry keep silent over what had happened to Sheikh Zakzaky and is still undergoing.

He added that, “What has joined us together, is indeed beyond what has parted us. I was criticizing the continued incarceration of your leader during my Ramadan Tafseer, calling all the authorities concerned to comply with the Court order and set him free. This has become compulsery”.

While lambasting the silence of other clerics, Dr. Gumi said that, “If a Muslim is in a state of pain and agony inflicted by tyrant leader, and other Muslims keep silent over it, then it might come to his turn henceforth. And as a matter of fact, silence over this kind of crucial issue is malice to Islam. Differences in creed should’nt have been a topic that would make one to keep quiet over something that he deserves to talk”.

Sheikh Gumi further said that, “This is a country where a secular system of government is been practiced. Every body is has the right to practice his religion according how he understands, and he should’nt supposed to be distressed. Hence, he even has the previlage to proclaim his understanding to the public if he wishes to do so”.

Sheikh Gumi eventually expressed his happiness for the visit, as he specially been honoured and visited by during the grace Sallah periods.

He aslso conveyed his special greetings to the leader of the Islamic Movement, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky(H). He sought that, he needs to pay a visit to Sheikh Zakzaky whenever he is freed from detention.

On behalfe of brothers and sisters of the Islamic Movement in Kaduna and environs, Malam Turmizi was ably represented with his peace-making words to the cleric and his entourage. He commended the effort of Dr. Gumi for his convening words as religous leader.
